William “Billy” G. settled near the Agua Fria River in 1880, calling his settlement Coldwater, AZ
He established a stage stop, a saloon, general store, and was Postmaster of Coldwater
The town grew and took its name from Avondale Ranch, where the post office was established
In December 1946, the City of Avondale was incorporated.
